Welcome to the PE, Sport and Physical Activity page of Christ Church Primary School.
You can find out about how the school spends its PE and Sport Premium Grant and what impact this and other expenditure has on sport and physical activity at Christ Church Primary School in the statutory information section of the school website.
Our PE Vision
Christ Church School believes in creating a culture where Physical Education, Sport and Physical Activity are considered to be as significant as other aspects of the school curriculum.
With a whole school staff confidence in all aspects of the subject, and through integrating physical activity into all areas, we aim to widen opportunities for all.
PE at Christ Church Primary School
At Christ Church Primary School, there is a wealth of sporting opportunities available.
Each year, we participate in the following activities: gymnastics, dance, drama, zumba, yoga, football, girls’ football, hockey, netball, rounders, athletics, swimming, tag rugby and tennis.
Various after-school clubs help train the children to participate in the competitions and be selected for the teams. Throughout the school, children also take part in half termly competitions with their year groups.
The school also employs a PE apprentice; Michael Lavelle, who supports within PE lessons. Due to this, teachers are able to facilitate high quality activities and Michael can support learners who require additional help to increase their enjoyment of PE. As our PE apprentice, Michael also leads the Active Play at playtimes and lunchtimes. Through Active Play, children learn to play co-operatively and sensibly which overall creates a positive effect between them and their peers and also increases the amount of physical activity carried out each day.
We also work closely and have strong links with Edsential, who offer advice with curriculum support and professional development for all staff and subject leaders. Edsential carry out PE audits throughout the year and offer additional training to all. A range of after school clubs, including Karate and Zumba are facilitated by high quality Edsential coaches and are very popular with both pupils and parents. F2 and KS1 are given the opportunity to participate in PE festivals; giving younger children the chance to experience traditional and alternative activities. By working with Edsential, we are fortunate enough for Great British athletes to deliver workshops and assemblies to inspire and engage the children, promoting their aspirations for life.
At Christ Church Primary School we believe that sport and physical activity is for everyone regardless of sex, ability, race or disability and we provide sporting opportunities for all of our children.
