Duties of the Governing Body

Full Governing Body

The duties of the full governing body include:
  • Monitoring the school budget, ensuring the correct procedures are followed and that ‘best value’ is obtained
  • Ensuring the annual School Financial Value Standard assessment is completed
  • Monitoring and reviewing staffing and financial resources, leadership and management, pupil premium and building projects

  • Ensuring the school curriculum is meeting the needs of all our pupils as well as the requirements of the National Curriculum

  • Monitoring progress and attainment data and relevant sections of the school development plan

  • Ensuring our school nurtures talents, widens horizons, develops skills and creates and celebrates aspirations

Link Governors

The link governor should ultimately enrich the whole governing board’s understanding  of its particular area and therefore contribute to more informed decision making. Responsibilities for the role include:

  • Taking a special interest in a particular area of need

  • Keeping abreast of development locally and nationally

  • Making focused visits to the school

  • Having regular contact with a member of staff with relevant responsibilities

  • Monitoring how well relevant policies are operating within the school

Governor Training

At Christ Church, the governors work hard with staff, children, parents and the local community in order to establish a place where a firm foundation for individual growth can be established. They are at the centre of our Christian community and continually work hard to make our school a better place. In addition to regular governor meetings, subject ‘buddies’ and mixing with all members of our community, they feel the importance of training within their own roles within the governing body.

Some training is organised within the school by staff or visitors, whilst other training is provided by the Diocese of Chester, Wirral Local Authority, local providers or Liverpool Hope University.
