Christ Church CE Primary School

'With God,
all things are possible' (Matthew 19:26)

Our Collective Worship

Varied and invitational worship lies at the heart of the school day. It inspires all members of the community and encourages spiritual reflection and development.

SIAMS 2019

Collective worship is an extremely important and integral part of our school day, as it provides the children and staff opportunities to pray, reflect, celebrate and worship together. At Christ Church CE Primary School, we adopt a varied and creative approach to collective worship. Each act of worship is shared by encouraging the children to gather, engage, respond and send. Most acts of worship are of a Christian nature, but great care is taken to ensure children from all faith communities feel included, comfortable and wherever possible are actively involved, through readings, role play and prayers.

Headteacher Collective Worship

Headteacher collective worship is one of the main platforms for exploring the school's vision and is centred around our Christian values which permeate every aspect of school life. Worship involves linking a bible story or message to our agreed values, events from the Church's calendar or wider spiritual or cultural issues and events. It involves participation and leadership from the children, invitational prayer and a time to reflect. For further information about our headteacher's acts of worship, please click here.

Key Stage Collective Worship

Children and staff join together for daily prayers and there is an opportunity for key stage collective worship which centres on ‘Big Questions’ and is linked to our Christian and British values through Picture News. Children will be encouraged to share their thoughts and questions and reflect on what they have discussed. For further information on Picture News, please click here.

Class Collective Worship

We use the inspirational collective worship resource Roots and Fruits in our class collective worship. Each act of worship includes the four elements of Welcome, Learning, Reflecting and Responding and is enriched by the use of:

  • Quotes and questions to encourage deeper thinking about each value
  • Photographs and posters to root the teaching in the everyday experience of children
  • Stories, poems and art, much of which has been especially commissioned for this book
  • Prayers and guided reflections from traditional and contemporary authors
  • Fruits from the Roots – ideas to develop the theme of the worship through the week

Prayer and Praise

Singing is an important part of school life and children and staff are encouraged to sing during worship, services and at our weekly hymn practice, Praise and Prayer. We learn a variety of traditional and modern hymns, as well as singing contemporary songs from iSingPOP and Fischy Music. We believe in the transformative power of song in children’s lives to improve their health and wellbeing and many of the songs we learn help us celebrate the good times and build resilience in the tough times.

Celebration Worship

Each week we come together to celebrate the fantastic work, efforts, achievements  and God-given talents of our children. There are two main awards for each class; Star of the Week and Our Values Certificate and class teachers will nominate children who have been shining examples and wonderful role models, both academically and pastorally. We also share our House Point Leader Board, Class Attendance Champions and our ever popular '£5 for 5' punctuality and attendance winners. Celebration Assembly is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate in our successes, both in and outside school, and reaffirm our  belief that 'With God, all things are possible'.

 Special Occasions and Celebrations

We take every opportunity to extend a warm welcome to all members of the wider school community and are fortunate to be regularly led in worship by our Reverend, Dan Harris. We have forged strong relationships with the wider local community and regular invite members of other local faiths to lead us in assemblies or worship, including the Wirral Deen Centre, Gateway Church Wirral and Wirral Youth for Christ. Parents, carers and families are often invited to join us for class assemblies, Harvest, Christmas and Easter Celebrations.
