'With God,
all things are possible' (Matthew 19:26)

Reception

Welcome to Reception!

Our class page is designed to keep parents and carers up to date with what is happening in school.

Miss Fearnhead is the Reception class teacher and she is supported by Miss Cloney. We understand that starting Reception is a big step for children and their parents so we aim to ease this transition as much as possible. Miss Fearnhead and the Early Years team are keen to help and support our families as much as possible. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to make an appointment with the EYFS team.

Reading

In Reception the children will start to learn to read through our Read Write Inc Phonics scheme. As the children learn each letter sound they will recieve a flash card to add to their phonics key ring and will work through a series of initial sound work sheets. It is important that the children secure these initial sounds as soon as possible in order for them to move on to reading words and captions.

It is important to encourage your child to read each night but also for you to read to your child too. Reading is a very important part of learning as a confident reader is likely to become a life long learner.

Children will bring their book bags home on a Monday and must be returned to school every Friday.

PE

PE in Reception takes place every Monday afternoon and your child is expected to come to school prepared for PE. Our PE kit consists of:

- Plain white t-shirt/polo

- Black or navy shorts/jogging bottoms/leggings

- Red school jumper/cardigan

- Velcro shoes that the children can put on themselves

Our focus for PE this half term is Dance.

Clubs

At Christ Church we aim to provide the children with a range of clubs and enrichment opportinuties. Each half term, information will be sent out via email which will allow parents to sigh their children up to the designated club for their childs class.

This half term the children will also have the opportunity to join a multi-skills after school club. Look out for the email with details of how to sign your child up!

Help at home

At Christ Church we understand the vital part parents play in the education of their children. We believe that parents are a child's first educators and we aim to work very closely with parents to support their child's education.

Tapestry Online Learning Journal - YouTube

Each child has got their own Tapestry online profile. This allows parents to view the learning that their child is accessing at school. We encourage parents to interact with observations uploaded by school staff and also upload observations of the children's learning from home.

Ruth Miskin Training - Ruth Miskin Phonics Training

In Reception, we use the Ruth Miskin videos to support parents when helping their child with their Phonics at home. We also signpost parents to the Ruth Miskin website where there are various helpful vidoes and tutorials to help parents and children practise together at home.

main-oxford-owl » Woden Primary School

Oxford Owl is a fantastic website with lots of information, resources and ebooks. It allows parents to gain more information about reading, phonics and maths. There are also a range of ebooks for children and parents to access at home.
