Social, Emotional and Mental Health
Social Emotional and Mental Health is one of four main areas of need as laid out in the SEND Code of Practice 2014.
Children and young people may experience a wide range of social and emotional difficulties which manifest themselves in many ways. These may include becoming withdrawn or isolated, as well as displaying challenging, disruptive or distressing behaviour. These behaviours may reflect underlying mental health difficulties such as anxiety or depression, self-harming, eating disorders or physical symptoms that are medically unexplained. Other children and young people may have disorders such as attention deficit disorder, attention deficit hyperactive disorder or attachment disorder.
At Christ Church, meeting the SEMH health needs of our pupils is of the upmost importance to us and as a result we have a comprehensive and bespoke SEMH therapeutic service. This enables us to provide targeted SEMH intervention through a range of internal therapies and external services.
We respond quickly and reactively to meet children's needs, using a graduated approach to inform a clear 'assess-plan-do-review' cycle of support. Assessment is used to establish a clear analysis of the child’s needs, a plan is set out as to how the child will be supported, the action needed to provide that support will be planned and regular reviews will be held to assess the effectiveness of the provision and lead to changes where necessary. Further details of our targeted intervention can be found by clicking on the images below.
